Breed-specific & genetic conditions

Just like humans, pets can be affected by genetic conditions such as hip dysplasia, allergies, IVDD, and more. Embrace covers all hereditary and genetic conditions on every accident and illness policy.

cancer icon

Cancer is a leading cause of expensive vet bills for pets, and it doesn't discriminate by age or breed. Coverage for cancer and all related testing and treatment is included at no additional cost.

Chronic Conditions icon

Chronic conditions

Chronic conditions like allergies, diabetes, and arthritis affect pets long-term. Embrace doesn’t have limitations on coverage for each condition and won’t stop covering them at renewal.

Exam Fees Covered

Embrace includes coverage for exam fees (sometimes called consultation fees) in our one simple policy at no additional cost. The exam fee can be $100 or more at emergency or specialty vets, and without coverage, it’s like paying an extra deductible each time you visit the vet. Some companies make you pay extra for this coverage but not us.

Embrace Pet Insurance Exclusions

All pet insurance plans have exclusions. Embrace is open and honest about what isn’t covered, including:

  • Routine veterinary care (including vaccines, flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, routine exams, spay/neuter surgery, gastropexy, etc.)
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Breeding, whelping, & pregnancy
  • Injury caused deliberately by you or any other person residing in your home
  • DNA testing or cloning
  • Injury or illness resulting from fighting, racing**, cruelty, or neglect
  • Cosmetic procedures such as tail docking, ear cropping, & dew claw removal unless medically necessary
  • Avian flu or nuclear war

Pre-existing Conditions Explained

A pre-existing condition is any injury, illness, or irregularity noticed by you or your veterinarian before the end of your waiting period, even if your pet never went to see the vet for it.

No pet insurance plan covers pre-existing conditions. However, Embrace distinguishes between curable and incurable pre-existing conditions and covers curable conditions if pets remain symptom- and treatment-free for 12 consecutive months.

Curious if something in your pet’s medical history might be considered a pre-existing condition? Request a free Medical History Review after you enroll and our claims team will review your pet’s medical records to determine if anything would be considered pre-existing and for how long.

For a complete list of exclusions see the Embrace Policy Terms and Conditions.
