Sunee-Thai-Ridgeback

Background

Jessica went on one of her frequent visits to a breeder of Thai Ridgebacks in Milan, Illinois. She went with the intention of finding a show-quality dog she could show to a championship in order to make the breed more visible. The breeder offered Jessica a black and tan pup, which is not the standard for Thai Ridgebacks, so Jessica had to decline. The entire drive home Jessica wondered what she could do to promote the breed besides conformation showing. Then she had the idea to get into obedience and agility competitions. It would add several years to her plan of becoming a breeder for the betterment of the breed, but it would make her a better handler in the conformation ring in the future. Finally she called the breeder and agreed to adopt the black and tan puppy.

First on her agenda was to give the pup a name. Jessica did some research and decided to name her Sunee, Thai for beautiful thing. The next thing on Jessica's list was pet insurance. Her three other dogs were already covered by Embrace, so that was a no-brainer. Sunee was the first Thai Ridgeback insured by Embrace.

Sunee was relatively healthy as a puppy until one day Jessica noticed a large swelling on the side of Sunee's neck while out for their morning walk. She immediately took Sunee to Animal Emergency and Treatment Center in Grayslake, Illinois. The vet determined the swelling to be a salivary mucocele, a collection of saliva that leaked from a damaged salivary gland or duct. A few days later, the surgeon removed Sunee's mandibular and sublingual glands. The surgery went extremely well and Sunee didn't even seem to mind the stitches.

Jessica says:

"Having Embrace Pet Insurance was not only helpful in this situation, but it's good to know that someone out there is helping to look out for my dogs - with four of them running around, incidents are going to happen, and it's comforting to know that they're covered. My dogs are my entire life and I do everything I can to make sure they're safe. Having each of them insured gives me comfort in knowing that if I wake up one day and someone appears to have swallowed a golf ball, we can get it taken care of no matter what!"
