Hope-Mixed Breed Dog

Background

Hope was very lucky to have been rescued by Dr. Katie McMurray while she attended veterinary school on St. Kitts Island in the Caribbean -- though most would say it goes both ways. At just 7-years-old, Hope was given a serious and shocking diagnosis, which even Dr. McMurray was not prepared for.

Dr. McMurray shares Hope's story:

"Hope came into my life and quickly became my whole world; helping me through school, personal life, moving, and starting my career. She was my closest companion. We had been monitoring her spleen as it was found to be slightly enlarged when she was younger and, after years of normal ultrasounds, my worst nightmare came true; her spleen had nodules on it and an enlarged lymph node was found on her ultrasound.

My stomach sank, as I thought the worst. Hope underwent surgery to remove her spleen and the enlarged lymph node. Unfortunately, the biopsies came back as cancer and it was discovered her liver was involved too. Every emotion came to the surface. What would I do without her? I was losing my best friend.

But we weren't going down without a fight -- I wanted to do everything I could for her. I put my trust in the wonderful veterinary specialists at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. We treated her for cancer and I had her for an additional 8 months. During that time she had a wonderful quality of life and I enjoyed every extra moment I had with her.

We were not taught about pet insurance in veterinary school. A friend of mine happened to tell me wonderful things about Embrace Pet Insurance and that day I decided I would get it for Hope, especially for big things, like cancer. While it was an extra monthly expense, the prices were more affordable than I ever imagined and it turned out to be the best money I ever spent. When Hope was diagnosed with cancer, I did not have the added stress of how I was going to pay for it all. Knowing that I would be reimbursed by Embrace allowed me to focus on our time together and Hope's treatment. Working with Embrace was very simple. I encourage everyone to have Embrace Pet Insurance!"
