Background

A cancer diagnosis is always tends to be a scary prospect. Remy, a 6 year old Domestic Shorthair was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma in his paw.

His pet parent, Stephanie G., shares the full story:

"Remy has always been a rambunctious tuxedo kitty, a sweet Romeo, and always prone to the strangest situations that can befall a cat! This summer was no exception as we discovered that he developed basal cell carcinoma in, of all places, his hind paw. This was pretty rare given the nature of such cancer but we felt that with Remy being Remy, we weren't surprised. I was deeply worried about my baby, scared we were going to lose him at only six years. The ugly growth in his paw had metastasized quickly into his two center toes and was also pressing against his middle paw pad. Needless to say, my usually sunny boy had become quite ornery of late.

Our vet referred him to an oncologist and off we went. I was even more afraid to see what the bills would come out to, knowing cancer is a beast we all fear. Remy's surgeon laid out the plan with me and I got the ball rolling with Embrace right away. My anxiety was put to rest after a few quick emails with my contact as she walked me through the claim costs and outlined what we could expect Embrace to cover for the cancer treatment. I was overwhelmed and tremendously pleased by how much they were prepared to reimburse me for.

Once that was out of the way, I could focus on getting my baby through the procedure and getting the follow up care he needed. Remy had a special surgery which necessitated the removal of his two center toes. Our surgeon actually amputated those and pulled the two outermost toes in closer together, which enabled him to walk normally. Fortunately, she was able to salvage his middle paw pad, which optimized his balance too!

While Remy fussed over his halo and played a daily game of Houdini-inspired bandage removal, Embrace took care of his claims as I submitted them. They maintained close contact with me and even let me know when they had a slight delay, which honestly wasn't much of a delay at all. Overall, I was, and am, beyond thrilled with the level of coverage they have provided for us and rest a little easier at night knowing that if something happens to my fur babies, I have them covered to the best of my ability. I feel fortunate knowing what Embrace offers to pet owners and I think their plans are amazing for this. I also give them accolades at every turn because their representatives have actually checked in on Remy to see how he's feeling and progressing and I love that. That truly resonates with me because it's emotionally taxing enough to fight cancer, but to really feel like someone is on your side is amazing. We're all connected as animal lovers and I feel like that shines through with their staff. We give them a resounding thank you and Remy sends cuddles! Thank you Embrace!"
