Pet Insurance Covered $25,000 Cancer Treatment for Diesel

Courtney's Story: How Insurance Helped During Diesel's Cancer Battle

The ultimate test of any product is whether the professionals who sell it really use it. Courtney works in the pet insurance industry, which often leads people to ask whether she actually uses or needs coverage for her own pets. Her immediate response takes her back to October 2023, when her dog Diesel received a devastating diagnosis that would test both her emotional strength and the value of having pet insurance during life's most difficult moments.

When the unexpected happens, love should come first

Diesel was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma, beginning a heartbreaking journey that would span just a few months. Between October and December 2023, Courtney and Diesel faced multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, chemotherapy treatments, medications, and countless veterinary visits. The medical care aimed at giving Diesel the best possible quality of life during his illness quickly accumulated to over $25,000 in expenses.

The financial reality hit particularly hard because Courtney and her family had just purchased a house. Despite the timing, there was never a question about pursuing treatment. "If we needed to put our house back up on the market and live in our car or live in a box, we would have," she recalls. They were prepared to sacrifice anything for Diesel's care. But having Embrace Pet Insurance meant they didn't face that impossible choice.

Embrace reimbursed 90 percent of Diesel's treatment costs, which made his treatment a manageable expense, rather than financial devastation.  This coverage gave Courtney something invaluable during those final months with Diesel. "I wasn't worried about the financial aspect. I was more focused on taking care of him and enjoying the time that I had with him," she explains. The insurance allowed her to be fully present for Diesel when he needed her most.

Diesel passed away in December 2023, just two months after his diagnosis. While nothing could have changed the outcome, having insurance fundamentally changed how Courtney experienced those final months. Instead of stress about mounting bills or difficult decisions about what treatments they could afford, she could focus entirely on Diesel's comfort and making memories together.

Looking back, Courtney remains deeply grateful for what her coverage provided during the hardest time in any pet parent's life. The insurance didn't just reimburse medical expenses; it gave her the freedom to cherish every remaining moment with Diesel without the burden of financial worry. Her experience reinforces why she believes so strongly in pet insurance, both professionally and personally.
