Veterinary costs vary greatly by dog and cat breed.
For example, Labrador Retrievers are more prone to arthritis, hip dysplasia, and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) than mixed breed dogs. And Himalayan and Bengal cats are more prone to having Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).
Because we cover these hereditary conditions, Embrace Pet Insurance premiums are higher for pure bred cats and dogs than for mixed breed pets.
Coverage for genetic or congenital conditions is not offered in very many pet insurance products. If a pet insurer brags that they don't increase the premiums for different breeds, read the fine print carefully. That's because they don't cover the very conditions you are likely looking to cover.

BTW, special thanks to Bodie for the gorgeous picture of Kayla, the Labrador puppy, and Neil, a loving husband. Hard to think that such a cute pup could possibly face hip dysplasia or PRA.
