P.L.A.Y. Dog Bed Review
My Rottweiler mix, Kramer, is a second dog. Much like a second child, his brother, Henry, got all the good stuff and Kramer was left with the hand-me-downs. That may make me a bad pet parent, but with a husband finishing up law school and extra spending money at a premium, that's the way it had to be. When we adopted Kramer in December our "extra" dog bed became his bed. This bed was nothing to write home about. It was a pad that resembled a piece cut out of a sleeping bag with a blanket on top of it and it wasn't nearly big enough for a 75 lb. dog. Kramer spent about half his time on the bed (which he would pat and move around until he was sufficiently comfortable) and the other half simply sleeping on the floor.
So, it seemed like fate when I met the good folks from P.L.A.Y. at BlogPaws in June. I found out they were looking for bloggers to review their pet beds and suddenly Kramer's sleeping situation was looking up! I kept in touch and after mentioning that I had a very handsome Rottie mix in need of a bed, they selected the Large Camouflage Bed - a very manly choice - for us to review.
The first thing I noticed when I got it was just how big the bed was. When they say large, they mean LARGE (their website says Medium beds are for dogs up to 60 lbs and Large beds are for dogs up to 110 lbs.)! It was so big that staff members were stopping by at the office to try it out themselves before I took it home. I wondered where it would fit in our bedroom. Luckily for Kramer, I was willing to rearrange a few things for his comfort.
It took very little convincing for Kramer to take ownership of the bed. A simple pat and call of his name and he hopped right on. He looked so tiny on such a big bed! I wondered if maybe my 75 lb. pup could have managed a medium. Oh well! He had a large and he loved it.
After a few days it became clear that Kramer would not be sleeping on the floor anymore. He loves the bed and I love the fact that its black, grey and white camo hides his fur really well (there is also a green camo option). Other advantages? The cover is easy to take off for washing and interchangeable with lots of other P.L.A.Y. bed covers (I'm a big fan of this Footprints cover in Khaki and chocolate - it matches our bedroom!). Finally, it's always nice to support companies that give back. As part of their Warm Bellies Initiative, P.L.A.Y. (with help from the Petfinder Foundation) donates one of their Special Edition Chill Pads to animals in need for every Artist or Original Collection pet bed purchased on their site or at participating retailers. Good work, P.L.A.Y.!
