Embrace Rx Drug Coverage
Should you get it and what does it cover?
Prescription drugs for pets can be expensive. If your pet suffers an allergic reaction or has a chronic condition that requires ongoing care the costs of take home drugs can quickly add up.
Prescription drug coverage is optional with your pet insurance policy, it covers:
- Take-home drugs prescribed by a veterinarian including antibiotics, pain relief, allergy meds, insulin & supplies, eye & ear drops, and more.
If you don't select it, medications given in the vet clinic are still covered under your accident and illness plans.
Note: this coverage applies toward prescriptions treating accidents
and illnesses. It does not include preventative prescriptions like
heartworm medication, which is covered by our wellness plan.
Claim examples with Rx drug costs:
- Allergies
in a young english bulldog: $798.71 for Rx drugs (spans 4 visits
to vet over 1 month)
- Vomiting & pneumonia in an english bulldog: $562.40 for Rx
drugs
- Cruciate
ligament in a rottweiler: $139.11 for Rx drugs
- Cherry
Eye in an english bulldog: $79.81 for Rx drugs
- Gastric torsion in a poodle: $30.75 for Rx drugs
Is there a deductible?
Yes, your prescription drug costs add to your other accident and illness costs and the total is considered against your annual deductible. This is a good thing since it will generally help you reach your deductible sooner in the case of high unexpected vet bills.
What isn't covered?
The drug plan does not pay for non-prescription drugs (including supplements/vitamins), heartworm medication, nor prescription food, some of which could be covered by Wellness Rewards.
