Hereditary & Genetic Condition Coverage

Hereditary and genetic conditions can lie dormant for years and when symptoms start showing they can cost thousands of dollars to treat. AKC Pet Healthcare plans do not cover congenital conditions, including: eye conditions, diabetes, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, and more. Embrace covers genetic conditions that your pet may be prone to, in full.

Wellness & Routine Care Coverage

Embrace promotes, rewards and encourages healthy pets by offering Wellness Rewards, a standalone routine care product to help you pay for regular visits to your veterinarian. AKC Wellness and Wellness Plus plans include preventive care coverage as part of the insurance so these items are applied to the deductible and co-pay, rather than reimbursed separately and fully with Embrace.

Per-Incident Limitations

Per-incident limits restrict the overall amount you can be reimbursed for a specific accident or illness. AKC Pet Healthcare has per-incident limits, while Embrace only limits you per year. Most Embrace policies purchased include a $10,000 annual maximum. AKC Pet Healthcare per-incident maximums are set between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on what plan you choose.

Waiting Periods

Any incident that occurs during a pet's waiting period will unfortunately be considered pre-existing and will not be covered. AKC Pet Healthcare policies have a 30-day waiting period for illnesses and a 5-day waiting period for accidents. Embrace policies have a 14-day waiting period for both accidents and illnesses. Wellness coverage with either company starts the day of enrollment.

Alternative Therapy Coverage

AKC Pet Heathlcare does not offer coverage for alternative medicine, including acupuncture and chiropractic care, both of which are covered with an Embrace policy, plus more. When it comes to treatment we want you to be able to consider any and all options presented by your veterinarian, which is why we cover alternative therapies standard with every policy.

Extra Fees

AKC Pet Healthcare charges an additional monthly billing fee for policy holders who choose to pay monthly. Embrace prides itself on having no annual fees and no monthly payment fees.
