Embrace Launches Pet Poison Resource Center
Embrace Pet Insurance Launches a Pet Poison Resource Center to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Poison Prevention Week.
March 2012 - Beachwood, Ohio –Embrace, a company specializing in dog and cat pet insurance, is launching a new pet resource center on their website in conjunction with National Poison Prevention Week, to help mitigate the number of pets who are accidentally poisoned each year.
The majority of National Poison Prevention Week's attention is focused on human poisonings. Embrace is keen to raise awareness over this week about the vulnerability of our pets, which are susceptible to accidental ingestion of potentially life-threatening poisons, particularly in the home.
Last year, there were more than 100,000 cases of pet poisoning in the U.S. Many of these were caused by substances commonly contained in the home. Poison Prevention Week covers all forms of poisoning, and Embrace is keen to ensure part of the spotlight is focused on pets.
The new Poison Prevention Center aims to simplify the process for pet owners to determine the different hazards that their pets need to avoid. Laura Bennett CEO & Co-Founder of Embrace explains,
"Any pet parent who goes through an accidental pet poisoning experiences the emotional distress and unexpectedly high costs of these incidents. We created the pet center to educate our insured pet parents on the dangers of everyday household items so we can help prevent the pain and suffering from such accidental poisonings."
The new Poison Prevention Center breaks down poisonous substances into the following categories:
- Human food
- Household chemicals
- Human medication
- Pet medication
- Animal toxins
- 17 most common poisonous plants
- Malicious poisoning
It also details:
- What pet owners can do to prevent poisonings?
- How to identify symptoms and
- What pet owners should do if they suspect their pet has been poisoned?
National Poison Prevention Week was established by the U.S. Congress in 1961 to focus national attention on the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them. This nationally-recognized event celebrates its 50th anniversary on March 18-24, 2012.
Laura further explains, "It's not unusual to hear pet owners joke about their pets eating everything in sight but pet poisoning is a serious problem. Embrace receive many claims every year relating to poisoning. By educating pet parents about preventative steps in the home and in their lives, I really believe we can make serious progress in reducing the emotional trauma and expense associated with pet poisonings"
